「小朋友專屬的洗衣板椅。」
在沒有社群媒體的時代，理髮店絕對是最受男女老少歡迎的交誼場所之一。20世紀臺灣職場性平意識逐漸抬頭，許多女性理髮師用一把剪刀撐起全家生計。而令人印象深刻的「純」字招牌，則是因1980年代部分理容院暗藏春色，為避免誤會才貼出的獨特意象。當時還小的我當然一知半解，只記得因身高不夠，每次剪髮都得坐上放置於理髮椅扶手上的洗衣板，才得以安穩就位的難忘回憶。
SNSのない時代、理髪店は老若男女に愛される社交の場でした。20世紀の台湾では、職場での男女平等意識が少しずつ高まり、多くの女性が理髪師として一家を支えていました。1980年代には、一部の理容院が風俗的なサービスを隠れて提供していたため、「純」という文字の看板を掲げ、健全な営業であることを示す店も見られるようになりました。当時まだ幼かった私は、その意味をよく理解していませんでした。ただ覚えているのは、身長が足りず、理髪椅子のひじ掛けに洗濯板を渡してその上に座らせてもらい、やっと髪を切ってもらえた、あの忘れられない体験だけです。
A washboard seat just for kids.
Before the rise of social media, barbershops were one of the most popular gathering places for people of all ages. In 20th-century Taiwan, as awareness of gender equality in the workplace gradually increased, many women supported their families as barbers with just a pair of scissors. The iconic “Pure (純)” signs posted on many shopfronts emerged in the 1980s as a way to distinguish legitimate businesses from barbershops that secretly offered adult services. As a child, I didn’t really understand any of that. What I do remember is that, because I was too short, the barber would place a laundry washboard across the armrests of the chair—creating a makeshift seat just for kids like me to sit up straight for a proper haircut.
